Common Issues

Magic Backup uses a special service that is part of your Microsoft® operating system called Volume Shadow Service to help make copies of very large or locked files on your system.  If you have a floppy disk drive connected to your computer, the light may blink when Magic Backup begins making a copy of a locked or very large file.  This issue is NOT a problem with Magic Backup, but a bug in the Microsoft operating system service that Magic Backup makes use of.

We are working with Microsoft to determine of there is any way to avoid this behavior.  In the mean time, if this behavior is really annoying you, we suggest that you can disable your floppy drive if you don't use it.  Follow these instructions to disable your floppy drive:

  • Right-click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop or in Windows Explorer
  • Select "Properties..."
  • Click on the "Hardware" tab at the top of the "System Properties" box
  • Click the "Device Manager" button
  • Click the + next to "Floppy Disk Drives"
  • Right-click on your A and or B drive and select "Disable"
