Performance

No, not that you will notice.  As with any computer program, Magic Backup requires some of your system's resources to perform its operations.  However, Magic Backup is designed to do most of its work when you are not using your computer, so it is out of your way when you need to do important work.  Magic Backup notices when you are using your Internet connection and CPU so it can reduce its use of those resources when you need them.  When your computer is idle, Magic Backup will increase its use of your computer to perform backups.

In certain cases, you may want to tell Magic Backup to stop using your computer's resources for a period of time.  These might include using your Internet telephone service (Vonage, Skype, etc.) or watching live videos over the Internet.  You can easily suspend Magic Backup if you need to for a period of time by right-clicking on the Magic Backup star icon in your system tray and selecting "Suspend".

Advanced users may also want to tell Magic Backup to do work only during a specified time window.  This can be done by selecting the "Advanced Settings" option from the "Backup Settings" page on the Magic Backup configuration window.

Yes!  Magic Backup can make backup copies of files even while they are opened by another application.  There is no need to shut down your email client or financial management application to allow your backups to proceed.  Yet another feature that makes Magic Backup a smart choice.

Yes!  Magic Backup is the only backup service we know of that will allow you to access all of your backed up files from any computer anywhere with an Internet connection and a Web browser.  No need to install any software!  Just go to MagicBackup.com and log on to your account.  Select the computer whose backed up files you want to access, and choose "Access Individual Files".  From that web page, you can search and find the file you're looking for and download it right in the browser.

If you forget to bring your presentation along to a business meeting, or want to show your friends the pictures from your latest vacation, Magic Backup is there to help you.

We do not recommend that you use the standard Magic Backup product on servers.  We won't stop you from trying, but there are some important things to consider, and limitations that apply.  We do recommend you wait for our soon-to-be-released Magic Backup Pro service, which will address these considerations and limitations.

Servers often run important database and server-specific applications like SQL, MS Exchange and IIS.  The consumer version of Magic Backup does not support creating time-synced version of the data files for these types of server applications.  Magic Backup Pro will, so stay tuned for news about that upcoming release.

Yes!  This is one of the cool features of Magic Backup.  Our servers will store at least 10 of the most recent versions of each file that gets backed up.  Each of those versions can be restored individually, so you don't have to worry about accidentally changing something you can't recover.

There are 2 ways to get back an old version of a file.

1) Use the Magic Backup Client application (Learn more...)

2) Use the Magic Backup Web site (Learn more...)

No, not at this time.  Magic Backup needs direct SSL access through port 443 to connect to our data storage servers.  You may need to contact your system administrator, or ISP to help you if you cannot connect to our servers with the Magic Backup application.
